I make a mean pineapple rasam 😋. Hometowns: Madras/SF/BayArea ... Home is where your heart is.
Earlier avatar as @arghwii on twitter.
Five suicides in IIT Madras and the business is as usual there. I am sick and tired of this society.

It's often on road trips that you start to grasp the full extent of climate change, whether it's witnessing the damage sandmining does to rivers, or getting a sense of the smog in North India.

The smog isn't a local Delhi problem — blankets villages and towns all the way down the highway to Rajasthan.
Hearing from friends that pollution is creeping up the Himalayas too. We can see the air, feel how bad it is; I wonder about the soil, and how the earth's contamination is affecting all of us.

Good people of Mastodon, I've been seeing a number of posts here that compare the Ayodhya judgment to a husband losing his wife to another man, treatment of rape victims etc. This is quite worrisome.

Women aren't property that one can win/lose claim over. Such comparisons reinforce the idea of ownership over women as passive objects. I have high hopes from this space and how we talk about women here.

So please do continue with the much-needed criticism, but please keep women out of it.

As promised, mastodon.social code of conduct has been updated to add "casteism and advocation of casteism" to the list of explicitly prohibited offenses
Ok ... SM is decentralised now. Can we get #crypto going please? Can’t wait for a day when I don’t have to deal with banks and just handle currency directly between humans.

Welcome to all the people from India that are joining Mastodon in these days!!

#india #introductions and #followindia can be helpful hashtags to find other people just arrived here like you.

We understand that you are still unconfident with this platform, therefore here you will find some helpful tips to better understand how #Mastodon works:

- There is no such thing as "A" social network called Mastodon! Instead there are thousands of independent social networks called Mastodon Instances.
- Every Instance has his own server, community, rules, admins and moderation.
- Every Instance can interact with users that are on other Instances, exactly like email works (you can send an email from gmail to yahoo, right?).
- Every Instance can choose to silence or completely block another Instance (i.e. because permits bad behaviour)

Since morning, been selling mastodon to wifey and friends. Just a Matter of time ... the more the merrier, isn’t it?
Centralised power structures are always going to be simpler to manage and use. Platforms like Facebook, Insta and twitter are designed to control your attention. So all of us are habituated to certain ways of using social media as opposed to others. Taking back the control of our attention and employing it in places that doesn't tell you where or what to look at, is going to be hard. But it's neccesary. This is going to require persistence, willingness to learn and adapt.
Right to express oneself without some arbitrary enforcement of “rules” is really pleasant to see. The way things should be.
Three years ago my mom ( who was 66 y/o at the time) was visiting us in noida for the first time since we had moved and thanks to #demonitization all she (and my husband since our accounts were in different banks) ended up doing was stand in lines outside banks and atms just so we could have enough Of our own money to buy basics instead of celebrating Diwali as we should have! I still consider us as the lucky ones given the tragedy so many others suffered were much worse.
