Seriously, it was already like that.

Opinions are mine and not necessarily those of my employer, clients, vendors, armorer, shaman...

@jerry re: defSec podcast - I, for one, thought your sex tape was tasteful and poignant. The editorial decision to leave in the last 40 minutes solving a crossword after the fire department left was both brave and evocative.
Yo #dallashackers I find myself in DFW for work and in need of a place to slake my exasperated thirst. Does anybody have [even comically terrible] suggestions which aren't a hotel bar?
I'm told Twitter employees were just walked out of its Singapore office — its Asia-Pacific headquarters — over nonpayment of rent. Landlords walked employees out of the building
@InfoSecSherpa :facepalm:
I was looking for a way to contact the New York Times to plead that they not show me the "Read it in our app" lure (after having just closed one yet again), and then there it was on the contact page itself. Please #nytimes stop. Over and over again, I have to shut this even when signed in.

Adulthood is a lie.
You can still pick up cool rocks you find and put them in your pocket.
@shatter yup, IIRC the GSA per-diem in those geo areas and timeframes was $100-$200 a head

@dannysullivan a few times I've clicked the 'read in the app' like a chump and on Android, at least, all it does is take me to the front screen on the app. Not the article I was reading. Which.. seriously?
@dannysullivan Seriously was hoping NYTimes would stop repeatedly asking after a certain number of times: Nope.
@dannysullivan Reasons why I surf the net with javascript disabled on most sites.
@dannysullivan Or you could just cancel. They long ago ceased as the “paper of record”

@dannysullivan I have emailed their website problems email. No response.

I was so frustrated that I actually clicked on the “chat” button on one of their help pages. The lady was very nice, but they have obviously been given a script. “We feel that our customers get the best experience by using the app.” Ugh.

I know very well it is a trivial matter to store the data in a cookie and to check the cookie before opening the pop up.

I wouldn’t mind if they asked once a month,,,or even once a week!

@OmegaMom @dannysullivan they want you to use the app because there’s more ways for it to monetise you. There no way they’ll change that behaviour until people stop paying/visiting and they figure out why.
@dannysullivan their response to me was: just clear your browser data… :-(
@dannysullivan If you're using chrome, try enabling "Desktop site". The formatting won't be great on a phone but it won't redirect you to the app.
@dannysullivan try blocking the pop-up and the grey overlay (probably separately) in #ublockorigin

@dannysullivan The #BBC do this too… annoying pop-ups that obscure the material being read. The #ABC (Australian one) also did this for a while, but finally pulled their heads in.

Maybe the Fediverse is an opportunity for us to abandon these "pushy" news outlets for others that respect our decision to anonymously browse their websites?

@dannysullivan I gave up and started to read from the app. It’s not better.

@dannysullivan John Gruber calls this “Dickpanel,” which it is. (But there’s at least a Safari extension that blocks it.) https://daringfireball.net/linked/2022/08/02/banish
