In a world of howling idiocy around technology, eduroam is amazing - a collective wifi network, across institutions and countries. I turn up at a University and it just works. Who do we have to thank for this miracle existing?

Interested in open infrastructure? Then join Jisc's digital research community meet-up tomorrow at 11-12 BST.

We'll be joined by Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) who will present findings from their State of Open Infrastructure 2024 report.

Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Jisc DRC meet-up: Understanding open infrastructure: The 2024 State of Open Infrastructure Report. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.

Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) works to increase the investment in and adoption of open infrastructure to further equitable access to and participation in research. They do this by providing actionable, evidence-based guidance and tools to institutions and funders of open infrastructure. In this month’s digital research community meet-up, Gail Steinhart, Senior Researcher at IOI and Katherine Skinner, Research Lead at IOI, will share IOI’s 2024 State of Open Infrastructure Report. They will highlight key findings related to: • Characteristics of selected open infrastructures, • Patterns in community governance of those infrastructures, and • Sources and characteristics of the grant funding those infrastructures receive and the research they enable. Caroline Mackay from Jisc Licensing will also give a summary of Jisc's agreements on infrastructure, including open infrastructure. We’ll follow the presentation with a Q&A and discussion. Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Jisc DRC Meet-up: Research Culture Initiatives in the UK. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) recently released a report on “Research Culture Initiatives in the UK” - a ‘state of the nation’ report on research culture, mapping current and past activity to improve culture across the R&I sector, and to consider how it can be better supported in the future. Conducted by Shift Insight, the Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC) – Vitae, and the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN), the report aimed to establish a knowledge base that would support UKRI’s contribution to the development of a Good Practice Exchange, as outlined in the Government’s Research and development (R&D) people and culture strategy. In this month’s digital research community meet-up, Yolana Pringle, Policy and Evidence Manager at Vitae will present key findings from the report and outline next steps. Yolana will also introduce the Framework for Research Culture, which identifies the behaviours and values that underpin: • How research is managed and undertaken • How research ensures value • How people are supported • How individuals engage with others We’ll follow Yolana’s presentation with a Q&A and discussion around the role of technology in influencing research culture and vice versa.
