As I procrastinated finals, decided to write about macOS’s System Integrity Protection and clear up some misconceptions with this setting:

Was fun writing some Python from scratch (needed to for OpenCore Legacy Patcher anyways), even got to mess around with PyPI and publish my first package for py_sip_xnu:

System Integrity Protection: The misunderstood setting

For the number of years I’ve been in the macOS community, one fact has always stayed consistent: Developers and users don’t understand what System Integrity Protection really is. Thus in today’s blog post, I want to clear up some misconceptions about this setting in macOS and propose better ways for developers to manage this setting.

Stupid trick: If you have a vanity domain, you can do

$ mkdir .well-known
$ curl 'https://mastodon.instance/.well-known/webfinger?resource=acct:[email protected]' > .well-known/webfinger`

... that is, just blindly copy your metadata file, looks like this:

https://infosec.exchange/.well-known/webfinger?resource=acct:[email protected]

and serve it. Anyone who searches for @[email protected] will be directed to your account.

Here's one of the many beautiful things about Mastodon and the Fediverse:

I saw that @johnvoorhees opened a Pixelfed profile. That service is powered by federation too. So here's what I did:

- Took his profile URL: https://pixelfed.social/johnvoorhees
- Changed it to: @[email protected]
- Searched for the account, and followed him.

Now John's photo feed is another account, from a completely different service, that I follow on my Mastodon. I love this.

@gn love seeing icons like this in my feed 🤤
@[email protected] Makes me miss the glory days of jailbreaking. I wish it wasn't so easy to break the illusion with the wallpaper shifting during certain actions. 😞
@rmondello Makes my life a tiny bit easier every day 👍
@[email protected] Wallpapers like this are few and far between nowadays. Feels good to see one on my timeline 👍

Ever wished it was easier to view posts or profiles from another Mastodon instance on *your* instance, without any manual copy & paste?

I made Masto-Redirect, a shortcut that can redirect both account pages and individual posts to your own Mastodon instance.

Takes 1 minute to set up, can run on all Apple platforms. Free to download. Hope you'll find this useful: https://www.macstories.net/ios/masto-redirect-a-mastodon-shortcut-to-redirect-profiles-and-posts-to-your-own-instance/

Masto-Redirect, a Mastodon Shortcut to Redirect Profiles and Posts to Your Own Instance

Like many others over the past month, I’ve been thinking deeply about my experience with Twitter and whether I want to align my social media usage with the kind of platform Twitter is rapidly becoming. It’s a complex discussion (if my readers are still on Twitter, am I doing them a disservice by not using

I've seen a few folks join Mastodon and complain that it's too difficult to follow people on other servers, with the cutting and pasting and whatnot. But @bramus has now created a neat Chrome extension (or bookmarklet, if you prefer to go that route) that let's you avoid all that hassle.

I just tested it out... by following @bramus with it!
