History PhD, academic proletarian. Former interests include the Enlightenment and empire, shitposting about Star Wars, and the less/fewer distinction. Current interests include preserving the thin reed of American democracy, and, time allowing, abolishing the Senate.

The resignation around #AI I’m seeing is extraordinary. It’s revitalizing the fossil fuel industry and burning the planet to make slop no one really wants out of stolen goods, but it’s here and if we don’t use it we’ll be left behind, so we might as well make it part of everything we do! No saying no to a handful of cybertruckfucks in Palo Alto!
Not for the first time, an NYT editor cuts a piece off at its knees with an insultingly annodyne headline. The original headline - as found in the email newsletter - was "JD Vance’s blood-and-soil nationalism finds its target." Nation's foremost hillbilly whisperer thinks the Tsar was the real hero of Fiddler on the Roof.

Opinion | Shouldn’t JD Vance Represent All of Ohio?

The senator’s anti-Haitian lies are putting people in danger.

It would be a tragic failure of the imagination for Jurassic World Rebirth to not include a scene of RFK Jr. brought into custody for attempting to abscond with a T-Rex carcass. "Gonna need a bigger fridge" will instantly replace the Jaws reference in the hearts and minds of cinema goers.

When Republican governors across the country were eliminating school lunches, Tim Walz was signing a bill into law guaranteeing ALL students receive free breakfast and lunch regardless of household income

Tim Walz is going to be an excellent vice president!

@UncivilServant If tomorrow, one of the candidates gets hit by falling space debris, that does not knock their party off the ballot. They can nominate someone else at their (not yet held) conventions and appear on the ticket in every state.

“They gave me the exact questions to ask,” Ingram, whose “The Earl Ingram Show” is broadcast statewide across 20 Wisconsin outlets, told The Associated Press. “There was no back and forth.”

You've lost me here. Biden's Gaza policy is unpopular with democrats, particularly so in Michigan, where Trump is currently leading by 7 points. Slotkin, in contrast, has consistantly led in polls in her senate race there.
I don't get how that's an argument for keeping Biden.

1. The 1968 Convention didn't go off the rails because it was an open convention (as all conventions had been since the mid 19thc), but because of Humphrey's Vietnam policy.
2. It has always been conventional wisom that gubenatorial executive experience is more relevant to the job of president than the speechifying of senators.
3. Yes, replacing Biden is risky. Keeping him is far riskier.
