BREAKING: Nothing terrible happened from the federal government giving regular people all that money for a little while.
Postscript: all the checkers /simulltaneously/ quit asking "Paper or plastic?" That means they were ordered to do so. Why? Because someone was bribed by a manufacturer of plastic bags?

It gets worse. They no longer ask if you want paper or plastic (at least at Vons), further driving up the use of plastic (read: fossil fuels).

Solution: We need to *ban* plastic bags altogether. Paper bags were fine, are fine-- reusable, recyclable, biodegadable.

Stores switched from paper to plastic to save money. Now that they charge a dime for either, they should be forced to switch back. They no longer have an economic argument against it.

Story time:

People trying to do the right thing demanded the end of single-use plastic bags in L.A.

They won. Grocery stores switched to heavier "re-usable" plastic bags, but insisted they were taking such an economic hit they'd have to charge a dime for them. (Fine. Ten cents on top of 30 bucks doesn't actually hurt.)
But culture didn't change. No more people re-use bags than re-used them before.

Result: we now use /more/ plastic instead of less.

We are still using more fossil fuels each year, which is disasterous.

FF companies want and intend to extract and sell as much FF as possible now and forever BECAUSE THAT'S HOW THEY MAKE THEIR MONEY.

The only, ONLY way to stop them is a hostile takeover by the government. Until we start down THAT road, we are not being serious about climate change.

Don't nobody say I ain't got friends!

A pair of hooded orioles has woven a hanging nest in the banana tree in my front yard.

I've lived in L.A. for 55 years and have never seen one before, so-- climate change, probably.

I'll take the good with the bad.

If you look up "regression toward the mean" there's a picture of RFK Jr

The airline industry should be nationalized (i.e. socialized). All profits should go to building rail infrastructure, with the goal of eliminating public air travel.

Private jets should be outlawed.

As far as I know it is only sold in the Echo Park Vons. (Presumably it is for sale places I don't go.) It is not always in stock. So sometimes I have beer I absolutely love. Sometimes not.

Tonight not. Today Vons did not have Aurora Hoppyalis.

Today I bought Tangerene Express and will report tomorrow.
