I only discovered fantasy novels as a grown-up. As an early teen I loved reading historical novels. The one that lured me over into reading more difficult and bigger books was Aidan Chambers’ Dance On My Grave. A YA novel before that was a thing.

TIL on Bluesky

In Dutch we call the most important question on a subject “de hamvraag” (literally the ham question). Pop etymology says in local quizzes the grand prize for getting the hardest question right was a ham, hence “de hamvraag”.

This totally! Also wanting to add libraries should also cater for parents. My pupils don’t go to the library because their parents don’t want to let them go on their own & only read other languages. Also: stop asking for money for late books.

My sweet sweet Gigi died last night. He was only with us for 4 years when his little heart gave up. Now go and catch mice in your next life little guy. And remember: live snacks are eaten outside.
