UZH: Postdoctoral Fellow

The History of Medicine Group within the Institute of Biomedical Ethics and History of Medicine and the Center for Medical Humanities at the University of Zurich, led by Professor Flurin Condrau, seeks to appoint a postdoctoral fellow (60-80 % FTE, competitive salary based on experience) for a period of three years, to start as soon as possible but no later than 1 October 2023. The appointment is for three years with potential for extension by another three years. Applicants must have defended their doctoral degree within the last five years. The Institute is an interdisciplinary research and teaching unit located within the Faculty of Medicine with close ties to the local History Department at the University of Zurich and the DGESS at ETH Zurich. The history of medicine group is rooted in a rich history of research and engagement in history of medicine and builds on its former chair Erwin H. Ackerknecht's legacy of a research-active environment for medical history within a medical environment. The University of Zurich is the largest university in Switzerland. As a member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and the Universitas 21 (U21) network, the University of Zurich belongs to Europe's most prestigious research institutions. It is committed to promoting diversity, fostering dialogue, and advancing interdisciplinary work.

📢 Dear colleagues, I'm putting together a roundtable on 'Applied Medical History' for the EAHMH in Oslo (08/31-09/02) & am still looking for participants. The roundtable will explore new ways of thinking about #histmed as an applied/activist/engaged field. We seek panelists who have found new forms of applying history in health education, clinical practice, science, policy, global/public health, & local communities.
Email me ([email protected]) if you're interested!

Hey #AHA23: my colleagues @DienerLeander and @MerkoferManuel are with you and help carry the flag of #histmed. They are, as historians go, fairly "brainy" people. So talk to them if you catch them around the conference.

Spoke to a qualified nurse the other day who left a hospital job in Oct 2021. The nurse told me that as of a few days ago, not a single colleague of a team of 50+ in Oct 2021 has remained in post. And this is Switzerland, one of the most expensive (and best funded) health care systems in the world.
