📢 Dear colleagues, I'm putting together a roundtable on 'Applied Medical History' for the EAHMH in Oslo (08/31-09/02) & am still looking for participants. The roundtable will explore new ways of thinking about #histmed as an applied/activist/engaged field. We seek panelists who have found new forms of applying history in health education, clinical practice, science, policy, global/public health, & local communities.
Email me ([email protected]) if you're interested!

Reports have reached me that my book is having a grand old time at the #AHA23 #AHA2023, and is enjoying excellent company at the UC Press booth 🥳
new favorite genre of post is historians being chuffed at seeing their first book out at #aha23 :) Can't wait for the day it's me!

@haushoferl, look what just arrived in the mail.

While the essays of that collection point to the reciprocal influence btw. nutrition science, politics, and culture, the focus of my book is the commercial contexts in which nutritional knowledge was produced, and the ways in which economic cultures and imperial imperatives shaped the nutrition sciences

By looking at nutritional products, the book shows how deeply intertwined the nutrition sciences were with the forces of industrialization, capitalism, empire, and white supremacy in particular

My debt to these scholars is referenced in the subtitle of the book, the Science and Commerce of Nutrition, which is an homage to the influential 1995 edited collection by Andrew Cunningham and Harmke Kamminga, titled the Science and Culture of Nutrition.
