I realised last week that I am in the final phase of my studies in terms of performance. Problem: A module that is a prerequisite for admission to the Bachelor's thesis will only be offered for the first time after the next semester. Solution: I have to torpedo the examination regulations by taking modules from the old examination regulations in order to fulfil an equivalence requirement.
One of our professors has now forced a plagiarism procedure on 5 first-semester students because their submissions are ‘a tick too similar’. You need a mountain of understanding to put up with this guy.
That moment when you get a suggestion from your ai tool that works at first and the compiler still grumbles. You look at the code and realise: wait a minute! This one line of code is completely useless and just causes problems. Get rid of it. My compiler no longer grumbles. :)
I have been using noscript in Firefox for some time now and it never ceases to amaze me how many things have their own api calls in websites these days. Sometimes it seems as if every web page you load is just a skeleton structure into which all elements have to be loaded by separate loading processes. Today, for example, I had a website where I had to release a webapi so that the icons were displayed correctly.
That moment when the lecturer says that the subject is totally great if you want to deal with sigmoidal activation functions - a yes, the sigmoidal function. it's always being talked about...
I have just learnt that flathub and nixos both offer the Linux version of Adobe reader 9.5.5. This is a version from 11 years ago. It is not as if there is no current Linux version of adobe reader. There is a version for Android that you just have to repackage. Dear Linux community, what's going on?
Insight of the day: When two teenagers stand in front of you and claim that the shop assistant is not selling them batteries: It's about fireworks.
Please don't buy young people just any stuff. If they can't buy it legally, they should do it with their parents or put up with it. You don't want to be responsible for someone putting themselves in danger at your expense just because you want to look cool.
I have been working for weeks now on packaging nglview for nixpkgs so that I can use it as a python dependency in one of my flakes. it took a lot of patience and was very exhausting overall. The installation instructions include some web-based package management systems, from which the corresponding packages must of course be loaded locally.
I am politically opposed to imperial units of measurement. I only learnt yesterday that a Prussian mile was bigger than an American mile. Total rubbish. Fortunately, I live in a country where SI units dominate.
