I'm a nurse living in Ann Arbor who works in Oncology, specifically in clinical trials helping patients access the newest treatments and techniques.

I am a transport-oriented (rather than recreation-oriented) bicyclist. I'm very into #bikes and #ebikes and will happily talk about either at length.

I pay a lot of attention to local politics including #a2council and tend to have a "YIMBY" housing and transportation-focused outlook.

I have two elementary aged kids.

The authoritarian government of Belarus is purging the country’s ham operators, charging them with treason and seizing their radio equipment. https://steanlab.medium.com/mayday-389f5713fee4
Severe solar storm conditions today mean GPS could be degraded or inoperable for hours, HF radio propagation potentially blacked out and the aurora might be seen in North America as far south as Alabama and California.
If any other AAPS parents are out in Livonia today at Solo and Ensemble today, may the odds be ever in your favor

Days like these - snowy, traffic snarled in every direction - I really feel blessed to live on a direct bus line to the biggest employer in the county.

Hopefully more people can be so lucky as we work together to build more housing in Ann Arbor.

New Car Day

Rode my bike over to check out this old Honda Fit. It's the same exact spec we bought new back in 2008, down to the manual trans and silver color.

Decided since I wasn't driving much anymore I might as well save some money on insurance and registration. Zero luxury options, but an honest car, and seems to be in good shape.

Will be selling our 2017 BMW i3, will definitely miss it but oh well.

I saw a thing today on Reddit where a user had tracked all of their costs of driving a car over the past 8 years.

TLDR: it was an older Camry bought used, and it cost about $41k all in over 8 years. A shocking amount, but actually about half or less of what the average American spends.

Anyway, it inspired me to start tracking my spending on commuting.

I looked at a 10 year old Fit today, it had spray paint on one door, and all the roof and windshield seams were covered in DIY-style black caulk.

The dealer wanted $13k USD for it! This is a car that retailed for less than $17k new. The used vehicle market is pretty messed up right now

Shopping for a used Honda Fit if anyone knows a (preferably) nice one for sale. Must be manual transmission. I'm in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Related - I hate going to car dealerships. It's a total waste of time almost every single time.
