Informed opinions, please!

Unburdened by knowledge or experience, I've decided to create a podcast interview series. After some online digging, I think I'm going to use Libsyn (studio/hosting/connect), which I believe will hold my hand on everything but the editing.

Good plan?

Visionary organizer Grace Lee Boggs reminded us to ask ourselves "What time is it on the clock of the world?" Unfortunately the second hand is moving in the wrong direction https://thebulletin.org/2023/01/press-release-doomsday-clock-set-at-90-seconds-to-midnight/

PRESS RELEASE: Doomsday Clock set at 90 seconds to midnight

The Doomsday Clock was set at 90 seconds to midnight, due largely but not exclusively to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the increased risk of nuclear escalation. The new Clock time was also influenced by continuing threats posed by the climate crisis and the breakdown of global norms and institutions needed to mitigate risks associated with advancing technologies and biological threats such as COVID-19.

People – real people – are starving.

They need your help. They need you to take action.

And they need you to do it now.

Celebrating one year of rooftop solar in rainy Seattle! It generated 80% of our annual electricity. In the last 9 months we paid $50 total in electric bills, inclusive of EV charging. Rooftop solar lowers energy costs, reduces emissions and helps protect sensitive landscapes.

All 3 were robust. All 3 had some previous issues. All 3 had had covid. Was covid the straw on the camel's back? Based on all I've read (e.g. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00403-0), the answer is very likely yes, but since we're not tracking it closely anymore, good luck getting good data...
Heart-disease risk soars after COVID — even with a mild case

Massive study shows a long-term, substantial rise in risk of cardiovascular disease, including heart attack and stroke, after a SARS-CoV-2 infection.

which might persuade the persuadable that this is a risk to take very seriously ("even with a mild case" being the key words). And this is separate from more obvious long covid symptoms, which have put major dents into some friends' lives too.

All of this seems like a lesser but

Just found out that the 40-ish sister of a dear friend just had a stroke. That's on top of the 60-ish friend who had to be rushed in for open heart surgery this week after a major bacterial infection. And on top of the 65-ish friend who died last year of a heart attack.
