@Bill_Door Extremely intense Cyclone Ilsa makes landfall in western Australia Thursday. Bedout Island had sustained winds of 198 km/hour with gusts to 252 km/hour! (198km/hour = 123 mph). Know anyone in the affected area? @krisSacrebleu
@krisSacrebleu Just watched "Dr. Strangelove" on TCM. The film has lost none of its bite in the almost 60 years since it was made. Is perhaps still the ultimate black comedy. Lost,in the (deserved)hoopla over Peter Sellers' brilliant portrayal of THREE characters,is Sterling Hayden's superb performance as Gen. Jack D.Ripper(😃 ). Amidst a whole plethora of bizarre, eccentric and insane characters,Gen. Ripper is the maddest of them all....
@krisSacrebleu Just watched "The Yearling" on TCM. Beautifully made and acted tale of man and woman(Gregory Peck,Jane Wyman)and their young son Jody(Claude Jarman,Jr),struggling to survive on a remote farm in 1870s Florida. And Jody's love for a young fawn. Film has lovely sequences which are almost dreamlike. And some which are nightmarish, very reminiscent of "Bambi". Jarman gives a remarkable performance as young Jody. He's the heart and soul of this beautiful, timeless film
@krisSacrebleu The Ghost and Mrs. Muir,TCM,6:45 PM PT. Superb romantic tale with a supernatural twist, beautifully acted by Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney.A lonely young widow rents a seaside cottage, only to find that she isn't the only occupant. Superbly mixes the supernatural and the romantic, ultimately morphing into an unforgettable love story. I think this is my all time favorite love story. A true classic
@krisSacrebleu "Sunrise - A Song of Two Humans",TCM,5PM PT. Famous, beautifully filmed silent film about a love triangle between a farmer, his wife and a city woman whom he meets and becomes enraptured by. Superbly acted, gorgeous to look at,this was directed by the great F.W.Murnau,who also direcred Nosferatu(the two films couldn't be more different). "Sunrise" is on many "all time great films" lists. Deservedly so...
@krisSacrebleu One of my favorite Shakespearean films. Wonderful cast,Brando,Gielgud,et al. But,after watching it again,it's still James Mason's Brutus that resonates with me the most. His Brutus is warm, human, fully three dimensional. And Mason, more than anyone else in the cast, speaks Shakespearean verse completely naturally,as simply normal conversation. It's a marvelous portrayal of "the noblest Roman of them all"....
@krisSacrebleu Julius Caesar, just starting on TCM. Excellent version of the Roman's Man Who Would Be King - and didn't quite make it... Brilliant cast - Marlon Brando,John Gielgud and, perhaps best of all,James Mason who is a superb Brutus. But maybe they should have shown this on March 15th?....
@krisSacrebleu "Round up the usual suspects"😃 Considering they really didn't know how to conclude 'Casablanca',the ending they did come up with is nigh on perfect. As is so much about this wonderful film. But,as almost everyone was Oscar nominated for their work,in front of and behind the camera, how in the Hell did Ingrid Bergman not get one? She gives the best performance in the movie! Oscar,Oscar,Oscar......🙄 🙄
@krisSacrebleu TCM just started some obscure little period piece. Set in some place in North Africa,it features some guy named Rick, who owns a bar and gambling joint. Oh yes,an old flame named Ilsa shows up early on. With her husband. I may give it a look. Sounds like it may be ok. Ever hear of it?
@krisSacrebleu Tonite's the night - Jupiter and Venus will be half a finger width apart. Best time to look is about 50 minutes after sunset, when the sky has turned a deep blue. Just saw it here - beautiful sight❤️ ❤️ . Pic shown below isn't mine but this is what it looked like -
