The wildly original, uncompromising docudrama The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension was #OTD in 1984.
I told people I wanted to grow up to be #BuckarooBanzai.
I still do.

It sucks having to update this invasive species map.
You hope and hope that we're going to get luck and there won't be any marbled crayfish in North America, but hopes go astray.

The "Publisher bans & DORA" roundtable happened a couple of weeks ago, but I've been busy uploading materials to the archive!
Full video recording! Cleaned up transcript! Supplemental notes!
These are materials associated with the roundtable event, "Publisher bans & DORA". The roundtable was held as part of a week of events commenorating the tenth anniversary of the Declaraion on Research Assessment. The event description read, "Several publishers – particularly those specializing in open access journals – have rapidly increased the number of articles submitted to, and published by, their journals. But despite their popularity with researchers, some institutions are refusing to consider papers published in some journals for assessment purposes. This event will examine whether such bans are consistent with DORA and academic freedom." The roundtable was held 15 May 2023 14:00 (UTC), both online and in person at McMaster University in Canada. Version 1.0: PDF based on introductory comments to roundtable. Version 2.0: Added video of roundtable recorded on Zoom. This video is also available on YouTube: https://youtu.be/LU2c3J9X--c Version 2.1: Updated PDF. Added one more case that was found a few days after the roundtable. Version 3.0: Added PDF of transcript. Version 4.0: Added PDF of comments.
Next week is the 10th anniversary of the Declaration of Research Assessment (DORA)! https://sfdora.org/dora-10th-anniversary-events/
I'm organizing an online roundtable on Monday, 15 May, 10 am Eastern on "Publisher bans & DORA".
You have probably heard people say, "Don't send papers or review for this publisher". Fine as advice, but should it be POLICY?

Do you think requiring faculty to perform "service" is still useful?
Or has the notion outlived its usefulness and is now just an excuse for institutions to not pay people for their work?
I helped with conference #accessibility research being presented today at #ISMPPEurope2023!
Conference accessibility needs work, but online resources help a lot of people meet their accessibility needs.

I've been looking for conference posters in languages besides English, and finally stumbled across one in Russian: http://betterposters.blogspot.com/2022/11/wanted-posters-not-in-english.html
More please!
