#OnThisDay my cousin called and said my old episode of For My Man was on… So I showed Mama. She pulled a KeKe Palmer: “I don’t know who this man is.” She looked at the screen… and didn’t recognize me. Back in the day, she used to call everybody: “My daughter is on TV!” But dementia changes things. And moments like this teach you a hard lesson about acceptance.

Somebody requested Luther Vandross for our “Man On My Job” brain exercise… and baby, it did NOT go the way I thought it would. 😅 Mama ended up cussing me out (all in good fun) and I had to announce… NO MORE REQUESTS! Haircut Day With Dementia… Why Was This Harder Than Producing a Movie?! 😩✂️
Today I tried to cut Mama’s hair and let me tell you… it turned into a WHOLE production. And not the kind of production I enjoy producing. 😩 With dementia, something as simple as a haircut can turn into a full workout because sitting still is NOT happening. Some days caregiving feels like dealing with a toddler — patience is required in large amounts.
When Dementia Has More Energy Than You Do! 😩
#onthisday Mama had trash bags and a mission. She packed her things… then went in my closet and packed my clothes too. I didn’t stop her. I was exhausted. I couldn’t even get off the bed. People living with dementia can have endless energy—and it can’t always be matched. Even with medication. She’s not the sit-and-color, fold clothes, watch TV, or do puzzles type.
