The beginning of the end was Citizens United:

It's endless..

There was also the strategist that called for republican presidents to cut taxes and spend so democratic presidents would feel obliged to raise taxes and be the 'taking money from the people' party. I forget the name atm.
Trump is the crowning triumph of a corrupt legacy that started generations ago.
The US was founded by a wealthy oligarchy who cared only for wealthy white men. In the time since then, the country has attempted to move beyond its origins to become more diverse, inclusive, and lead by example. Several times in history, it did. Never perfect, but it was the 'dream' held by more than just wealthy narcissists. Unfortunately, refusing to acknowledge the ugly origins means it's gained power politically and dragged us backwards by a long way.
@BassRck66 @randahl
If this was X: PEANUT????!!!!
@luckytran this doesn't just have to do with the wealth disparity but also the rise of the internet/alternative news sources. I remember my parents freaking out I had put my full name on Facebook...basically raised to be critical of new information sources.
Also there were limits to the shenanigans people could pull through dial-up.
@MissingThePt
I keep seeing articles like 'the Dems made me do it! We don't like being called idiots/racists/mysogynists/(insert word that they mysteriously never connect to politician of choice)!!!'
I mean if the reason you voted your rights away to an idiot is because you don't like being called an idiot, that really doesn't prove anything, does it?
