My piece about my first year with solar power (and a battery) is up — if you’re thinking about jumping in, or just curious how it works at the homeowner level. Feedback welcome & please share. https://streets.mn/2024/10/14/my-first-year-with-solar-power/
What You Can Learn From My First Year With Solar Power

Sunny days are happier than ever for this author whose electric meter now runs backwards. A year of his data reveals how yours could, too.

What I remember from #9/11 the most is the sick, horrified sensation that I had the first time I heard G.W. Bush utter the word "homeland" and his order to create a "Department of Homeland Security." There was a sense of lead in the pit of my stomach. I saw an authoritarian pivot that would turn us into Fortress America. I was horrified at a panicked, knee-jerk reaction toward jackboots marching in the streets. Today the lawless law enforcement arms of DHS have proven my fears repeatedly.
@april I should be careful what I wish for but if this kills captchas I’m on Team AI
@[email protected] pondered that but the goo was above the housing, not really on the blades (though they are dank, too). Decided it was more trouble than worth. I should probably just burn the house down.
Found grossest part of my kitchen: ceiling fan uncleaned since 2003. White top now resembles Silvio Berlusconi’s toupee: dark, fuzzy, unnatural. 409? Scrub sponge? Nope. Magic Eraser scraped the goo into black nubs that fell into motor housing & now spray out when fan runs.👍🏻
@LibrationPointThree all energy solar
Hey EnergyHeads™️ - what’s a 100% Windsource customer to do here? Just roll over into Xcel’s Renewable*Connect Flex program or the Legacy option? (Coincidentally I’m getting solar installed today so hopefully I will pay little/nothing for grid power.)

UPDATE: @MayorFrey has vetoed Minneapolis' rideshare ordinance, but says @Uber has "committed" to boost driver pay

@TheMulda is skeptical: "We are unclear as to what the mayor claims to have won." My story, updated w/ the driver advocacy group's take ➡️ https://www.minnpost.com/metro/2023/08/minneapolis-mayor-vetoes-rideshare-ordinance-but-also-said-uber-has-agreed-to-guarantee-drivers-make-a-minimum-wage/

Minneapolis mayor vetoes rideshare ordinance to improve pay, protections | MinnPost

However, Frey also said in a statement that Uber has committed to – effective immediately – guarantee that drivers operating within the city limits “will earn at least Minneapolis minimum wage."

Who did this
The essence of Frey-ism: picking downtown cronies over stuff that happens in a diverse collection of neighborhoods: https://www.startribune.com/minneapolis-will-end-its-partnership-with-the-group-that-puts-on-open-streets/600298618/
Minneapolis will end its partnership with the group that puts on Open Streets

Nonprofit advocacy group Our Streets says the decision blindsided them, and questions future Open Streets events without the city as a partner.
