One of the reasons we are awash in far-right extremism is that the public is often deliberately ignorant about the subject. This is understandable: it’s an ugly topic that deals with the worst of humanity. But it makes us all vulnerable to their predatory tactics.

As rueful Pasco event officials discovered, neo-Nazi skinheads use MMA tourneys as hate festivals

As far as the overseers of a publicly owned events center in Pasco, Washington, could tell, the men who approached them about hosting a mixed-martial arts tournament last month were just ordinary boxing promoters looking for a facility. So the event...

When hatemongers like LibsofTikTok’s Raichik spread anti-LGBTQ smears, real violence happens

When Chaiya Raichik, the former Brooklyn real-estate agent behind the stochastic-terroism-promoting LibsofTikTok account on Twitter, appeared publicly for the first time on Tucker Carlson’s daytime Fox Nation show last week, she claimed she was...

Ken Balcomb’s considerable scientific legacy outweighed by movement he created to save SRKWs

Everyone who knew Ken Balcomb—the great whale scientist who died this week at age 82 after a long struggle with cancer—has stories to tell about him, often many of them. My favorite is one that he liked to tell sometimes, but that other people I know...

Tucker Carlson’s rage at Zelensky caps a year of getting things wrong

Carlson's worldview is getting repudiated on one front after another.

@JoshuaHolland Can’t have too many newsfeeds and the communities that come with them.
@WNC_Wobbly Nope, I would say 98% of Idahoans are utterly ignorant or have forgotten it if they ever knew it. Unless they're likeminded. Then they all use the dogwhistle signals together.

As a fourth-generation Idahoan who has watched this happening in slow motion since the Aryan Nations' arrival in the late '70s, all I can do is shine a light on them and hope the exposure helps send them scattering.

Idaho nears the fulfillment of Aryan Nations leader’s vision for creating a white-nationalist haven

Part one of a two-part series. Part two here. Back in the 1970s and ‘80s—a period when white supremacists and far-right nationalists had been largely relegated to the fringes of American politics—the remnants of the movement devised a strategy for...
