Don’t believe the anti-vaxxers when they say “it’s a mild disease” or “it’s better to get immunity naturally”.
It isn’t.
Too wound up to go to bed, so I just sent lots of emails to people hoping that they'll spread the word and get lots more people to write comments to the FCC telling them that orbital data centres and sunlight-as-a-service are incredibly stupid, dangerous ideas and should never be launched.

I don't think it'll actually make a big difference. But I do think it's incredibly important that the official record shows how many opposed this.

In October 2025, the publishing platform Substack suffered a data breach that was subsequently circulated more widely in February 2026. The breach exposed 663k account holder records containing email addresses along with publicly visible profile information from Substack accounts, such as publication names and bios. A subset of records also included phone numbers.
https://open.substack.com/pub/aizia/p/linux-was-always-ready-its-audience?r=eax95&utm_medium=ios&shareImageVariant=overlay Linux has been "ready" for decades.
Technically faster. More stable. More transparent than its competitors. So why did it never cross into mainstream adoption?
The answer is uncomfortable: Linux did not fail because of capability. It failed because approachability was treated as a flaw.
@shimminbeg @npt_writes I didn’t see the appeal at first either. What changed for me was seeing these tools as an interface that helps readers enter a book, the context, clarification, pacing, all without altering the work itself. Used carefully, that can mean more people actually engage with a book instead of bouncing off it.
Where I agree completely is that monetization and author protection haven’t caught up. That gap is real, and it’s where the pressure belongs.
@earthtoneone Every author trying to bring work into the light is pushing against the same structural forces.
My hope is that we focus pressure where it belongs, on platforms and policy, while still shaping the tools that readers are clearly adopting.
@earthtoneone I see this as an incremental step that can lead to better outcomes in a few years, but only if we actively weave civic, ethical, and creator protective lessons into the process as it unfolds.
I’m not deaf to the struggle people are facing during this transition. Quite the opposite, I’m working within the industry to reduce that harm where I can. Ignoring what is happening, though, doesn’t stop it or protect creators either.
@npt_writes and I am an author before the ebook era when the cost to publish was enormous.
I also have had 3 books in the scraping process that were identified & have since come to appreciate that some of my works helped shape the next generation.
Know this period is a transitional, soon the AIs will not bother with text any more. Their language skills have achieved escape velocity. The next frontier is sensor data. You will always be a creator, it’s your unique view that is urs.
@npt_writes I am an author of 5 books and while I understand your concern, and fully believe Amazon should give those publishing on their platform the ability to enable/disable the feature for their works - I also know how incredibly valuable it is to users of the content.
I honestly don’t want a book that doesn’t give me the feature now. The AI’s are so advanced that it tailors the experience to me.
Writers are still valuable, it’s just their role is changing in the process.
Tiny Mastodon Tip About Globalisation 🌍
On Mastodon, there isn't an algorithm to restrict your reach to your own country or region when you post.
Additionally, many people post in English, even when it's not their native language.
If you post a comment or question
that is related to a specific region of the world, please specify which one, and don't assume people worldwide will know this acronym or reference.
You will have a better chance to
get the answers you seek, and more boosts from people living in different regions of the world.
Also consider adding a hashtag relevant to the country or region you are posting about.
Keep in mind the Fediverse is global! 🌏🌍🌎✨
