Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks
This boisterous couple has been hanging out in the creek behind our home. I am enamoured with them... They are charming, especially as they swim past the hauty Yellow-crowned Night Herons that always seem startled then surprised that anything had the temerity to invade their territory. Unlike most species of ducks, both male & female are identical. They mate for life and return to the same nesting site every spring.

Abby watches a squirrel running along the fence. She's trying to decide if he's worth a chase this late in the day. She and her belly decided to watch him rather than to chase him.

This Yellow-crowned Night Heron has been a regular along the creek behind our home since heavy rains last week.

This Green Heron hatched in a tree in our front yard, watched our dogs daily until, one fine afternoon he walked down the tree trunk to join them. My "fearless" Jack Russell Terriers bolted inside. I got this fabulous shot. Watching the parents build the nest and raise 2 babies was absolutely fascinating!
