Things that are going well: I advanced to candidacy, received reviewer comments with kind tones on a manuscript, and was accepted into a systems dynamics workshop this summer. On the other hand: my specific aims page for my F31 is getting worse with each round of revisions, I’m playing phone tag with a psychiatrist, and I haven’t run in 2 months and have a 50k this weekend.
I'm about to do my (small) part in the Diversifying Clinical Psychology Conference (sponsored by CUDCP). This happens every year; if you have trainees who would be interested next year, let them know about it now! It gives future applicants tons of information and great experience to help them on their way to grad school! (Boost if you think people should know about it).
https://cudcp.org/DCP#ClinicalPsychology #DEIThis week, there were two mass shootings in my city. The political hellscape concerning trans rights is bleak. As interesting as the perennial networks thrashing is, I’d rather not.
Do you ever read reviewer comments and think a cis dude wrote this? I don’t know anyone else who else talks at people like this.
Case conceptualization drafted ✅ I am still drowning, but I feel relief knowing that, if nothing else, I’ll have something to submit for my research and clinical program milestones.
Sometimes it feels like the minimum work required for clinical psych phd is beyond anyone’s capacity, yet somehow most things come together. Now, about that case conceptualization 🫠
This semester is hard. I have 3 classes, clients, a clinical milestone, and a research milestone. While continuing a research program, lab responsibilities, and service. But I had a goal to have my prelim in a spot that left a month for editing and formatting figures/tables, and I think it’s going to happen 😮💨
Early birthday gift to me 🤗🤓 how the book is going: I struggled to wake up this morning. My partner said “your coffee is getting cold.” I woke up immediately to talk about balancing feedback loops.
Bracing myself for another class that will discuss evolution. Friendly reminder that evolution is change in allele frequency over time and concerns *populations* not whether or not an *individual* feeling is valid. Psychologists must understand this difference before making claims about “adaptation.” Natural selection is about fitness and only one of the forces implicated in evolution. I will die on this hill.
