Find me on Bluesky. @chris-carus.bsky.social
Logging back in to Mastodon for the first time in many months to say.... I'm on Bluesky.
Main news I'm taking from Scot Gov announcement of Heat in Buildings Consultation is a delay of ~3 years vs previous schedule. Previously minimum energy efficiency standards were expected to apply to new tenancies and home re-sales from 2025. Now looking at 2028.
Majority of green heat transition now shifting from 2020s to 2030s. Deadline for green heat well into 2030s. Thats far enough into the future for it not to hit public consciousness.
Found the EPC too. It is EPC C but a mid-floor, mid-terrace flat would be EPC with single glazing and a gas boiler. Surprised it scores so well with instant electric heating and hot water.
Sheesh. EST case study.
1896 tenement flat with vapour impermeable internal wall insulation and electric underfloor heating.
Bills will be sky high and the wall likely to be deteriorating.
Would love to visit.

One of the highlights of 2022 was signing (on behalf of the board) the employment contracts for Loco Home Retrofit's first employees, two executive officers. We will soon be hiring more roles (lots of flexibility so do get in touch):

Two roles covering some or all of the following:
* Development: project management, research, service design, community development
* Technical delivery: surveying, advising, specifying and coordinating works.

That time the A-Team helped form a militant farm workers union

Emissions are down 50% since 2005 with population up 12% so we're on track right, why bother?

Well, yes, Glasgow's emissions are generally down in every sector. (A new sector, waste management, has been added to government reporting going back to 2018).

Loco Home Retrofit is a co-op of householders and building contractors and professionals working together to accelerate the energy efficient, low carbon retrofit of homes in Glasgow. Here's a quick thread explaining why we think there is a role for community-led intermediaries like us.
