"They say America First, but they mean America Next." - Woody Guthrie

Mastodon hive-mind!

I require your assistance

I'm wondering -- what was the first American song written about the problems of becoming famous as a singer/performer? Of the hassles of fame, of life on the road, etc?

When did this become a subject matter of songwriters and performers?

Please boost, the more brains on this one the better

#GratefulDead Deadcast pin joins my fave commemoration of Petty/Dylan/Dead shows in ‘86
tonight at 8pm ET, the #GratefulDead's youtube channel will stream a cleaned-up version of the duke '78 show on the new box, originally shot by the student-run closed-circuit cable station, featuring through-the-roof energy, garcia & others on steel drums, & much fun, plus a preview of next week's deadcast, revealing the identities of the show's mystery percussionist & owner of the visible taper mics. "The Duke '78 show had been floating around in video tape trading circles going back to the 1980s. It wasn't great, but being from such an underrepresented v...

@ChrisNelson @InstituteJerry yeah day of the dead was largely filmed in the Giants lot. IMO that special is more responsible for the bad parts of the fan base expansion that hit over the next year or so than the single or album, because it emphasizes the party scene so much. Most so called "touch heads" were totally fine of course, it was just the ones who were chasing dope and ogling hippy girls
@ChrisNelson @4CPcomics can't stage mock naval battles without a moat! "marine theater" was a thing in the '40s. here's jones beach in new york.

@mrcompletely @ChrisNelson I spent some time coding in the "studio album" for all the tunes. So now at least I can run a query to answer your question. You can also see the album counts per show on the Detail View of the website.

Here are the shows were > 4 songs were played from any of the last 3 albums. Yep, 1987-07-12 is at the top.

to celebrate the 10th season of the good ol' #GratefulDead-cast, we've got our first ever deadcast merch! apparently getting bootlegged elsewhere on the infraweb already, accept no substitutes! https://store.dead.net/en/search/?q=deadcast&lang=en_US

@InstituteJerry Is there a way on Jerrybase to search for a show with the most songs from a partic album? I popped on 7/12/87 and realized there are 6 of 7 songs from In the Dark, and made me want do do that kind of search. 🙏
@ChrisNelson I always thought they were heading west. From our perspective in Colorado looks like the Rio Grande runs N/S, even if it's the border in Texas.
So, farewell to southern skies is because they're leaving the south behind as they go west.
But, who knows. And it's probably just there for the sound of rio grandio...
