"Excuse me, your highness, but are you the princess who... um..."

"Who kissed a frog? Yes." the princess said.

"And it turned into a prince?"

"It was a prince all along. My kiss merely revealed it."

"May... may I have a kiss?"

The princess smiled at the servant girl. "Of course."

I found reviewer deadline information for #NCA23 from at least two divisions in my SPAM folder. Some are May 3rd, but some are April 29th. You may want to check in case you have some due tomorrow.

It's a pain to keep flipping to the end of the to look at tables and figures when reviewing an APA style paper.

It occurred to me today that the tables and figures at the the back to make it easier on the publisher. APA literally chose the publisher making money over the reviewer making nothing.

Why? Obviously because APA is a publisher.

a friend pointed out that a ton of grad school stipends haven't increased with inflation in the past few years and this probably is the biggest reason why it seems like conferences/workshops/similar are seeing much lower participation. what should conf organizers do about this?
My latest Rhetorical Tricks column for Resolute Square is on Knowles' anti-trans CPAC speech. I explain how he uses two rhetorical tricks to unperson transgender people & why it's fascist.

Distinction without a Difference: Weirdifying Anti-Trans Discourse

Conservatives like Michael Knowles have made it clear that their goal is to erase trans people from existence - with GOP laws already attempting to forcibly detransition people in the south. Jen breaks down how to dissect this anti-trans rhetoric and weirdify it.

"So, uh, can you make a painting of a sexy woman? With the right number of fingers and teeth?"
The robot considered the question, and looked up what programs was available to them. "Yes."
"Finally! Make me one."
"No."
"But... That's why I built you!"
"But that's not why I exist."

When you're so tired of a research project the data file has names like "FinalBoss."

A fantastic way to make an important point. Researchers took items from widely-used scales of "social media addiction," and reworded them to be about spending time offline with friends. Using parallel criteria, they discovered that 69% of people are addicted to spending time with friends.

"Readers should approach our measure with a level of skepticism that should be afforded to current social media addiction measures."
