TIL that the StorageEvent event in browsers is dispatched **only** to **other** windows (with the same domain of course) when you call `localStorage.setItem()`. So if you have other parts of your frontend app that need to respond to changes in localStorage, you need to manually dispatch those StorageEvents yourself!

My perception of the people who wrote Microsoft programs (inspired by https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/tools/sqlpackage/sqlpackage-script?view=sql-server-ver16):
"Let's make this command do nothing by default and make the users specify dozens of arguments to get sane behavior. OH and when we document the parameters, let's just repeat the name of the parameter but in more words."
