Listen to the new Darling Killer episode!

https://deaddarlings.nl/podcast/

" @msmarkus didn’t so much kill this darling, as wish to resurrect it! Pygmalion is a work from her exam show at the Rietveld Academy, for all intents and purposes ‘dead to the world’ and buried in the past, yet already containing all the seeds for themes and patterns that keep reappearing and evolving throughout her work. Extended still lives, activism, textiles, memento mori, the colour blue and last but not least, the coded autobiographical references in her seemingly abstract works. Quite literally woven into the fabric of her oeuvre, are the people, the places and the ideas that left their mark on her. Informed by her background in psychology and theology, her work doesn’t shy away from spirituality. The spirituality contained within this beautifully constructed photographic composition is hidden yet palpable, and this archival print, this historical monument, has been generously offered up for auction by the artist at the symbolic starting price of one euro. By bidding you support Darling Killers and the artist directly."
Dead Darlings

Dead Darlings is an anonymous art auction founded in Amsterdam by Tania Theodorou and Lina Ozerkina as a platform to explore the complex love triangle between artist, artwork, and collector.

Dead Darlings
March 8, International womxn’s day. Time to take out the pirate in you and find your allies!

I am in debt to the ones before, in awe for the ones today and curious on the ones to come. Let’s be conscious and embrace awareness, not just today but everyday. In times of conflict, climate crisis and shrinking democratic space global gender equality diminishes even more. Speak up, reach out, change.

My new work ‘Partition # 9 (sphere for Thea)’ is now on view in the exhibition ‘Women of Amsterdam - an Ode’ at  Amsterdam Museum

The installation, Partition #9 (sphere for Thea), evolved out of my friendship with Thea Bakker, an Amsterdam local since 1970. The chair standing in the work is the same as Thea’s beloved music chair, which was the centrepiece in her home in Amsterdam west. That spot holds significance in my memories of Thea. The chair symbolises a safe space to listen and reflect. Six free hanging tapestries creates paths in the room, they are based on my relationship with Thea, Thea’s home, circular thinking and important lifelines (routes). The installation invites you to sit down and listen to a sound piece where I mix thoughts and experiences from myself and from Thea’s loved ones, like her great friend Ans, her brother Bart, her sister Gerda, her niece Floor and Thea’s heart friend Ella.

Thea underwent a long journey toward self-acceptance. In the 1970s she was active in the Transvestism and Transsexuality Working Group in Amsterdam. In this work I contemplate on topics such as loss, gender, identity, equality, kindness, and truly seeing one another.

In memory of Thea Bakker (1951 – 2023).

One never works solo:
