I finally got myself a gaiwan thanks to TeaVivre and I have to say, making tea this way feels completely different from the way I made it before, using my gong fu travel set... but I really like it. It feels more "proper" to me when making it this way! #tea

UPDATE: Got it sorted thanks to help from a Linux group on #MeWe. Turns out, you can select your DE from the login screen. Seems to be working just fine now that I switched it back over to Cinnamon.

A learning experience, to be sure 😂

Booted up my one laptop running #Linux Mint after about a week of not touching it... to my surprise, it booted into GNOME when I have Cinnamon installed. No reason, just randomly did it.

Not only this, but the installation of GNOME appears to be borked, with light-and-dark options doing absolutely nothing, certain theme options from the Cinnamon installation are still present but completely unchangeable, my wallpapers (including the login screen one) were all reset, tap-to-click being disabled and so forth.

I haven't installed anything new, I haven't done anything unusual in system settings, it just decided it wanted to casually boot into an entirely different desktop environment.

I tried searching for anyone else having this issue but couldn't find anything. It looks like I might just have to spin up Timeshift and run it back a bit to see if that fixes the issue.

Bizarre. Absolutely bizarre. 🤷‍♂️

One of the greatest tragedies of modernity is the disappearance of honor, subtlety and pragmatism.

I don't argue politics here but I find it hilariously ironic that federalist traditionalists like myself are extremely rare on the Fediverse...

Considering how people like me just want the American government to essentially function like the Fediverse (ie. sovereign states connected by a limited federal government), it really strikes me how funny it is that I'm a tiny minority here.

Sometimes, I think about starting a reaction channel since I've been diving into anime and K-drama a lot lately, and I figure it'd be a fun way to explore both genres... then I remember the threat of AI and it shuts me down before I start making plans.

AI sucks, man.

While #Adobe is doing an absolute stupid with their new licensing terms, and (now Canva-owned) #Affinity slashes prices by half in a "flash sale", I am once again asking people to consider supporting #FLOSS tools instead.

Yes, they are far from perfect.

But with a small fraction of what these closed source vendors are raking in, these tools could be made immeasurably better.

And they won't end up bought up and enshittified, as experience with past attempts at doing that to FLOSS tools shows.

Another day and I grow more convinced that I should move away from Proton VPN. Ever since those recent changes they made to the free plan, EVERYTHING is a worse experience now. Not just less features but slower servers, connection takes ages and speeds drop drastically.
Facing a government-mandated click-through agreement before you can engage in basic internet use sounds like a dystopian novel. But it's an actual proposal before the EU Council. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/06/eu-council-presidents-last-ditch-effort-mass-scanning-must-be-rejected
EU Council Presidency’s Last-Ditch Effort For Mass Scanning Must Be Rejected

As the current leadership of the EU Council enters its final weeks, it is debating a dangerous proposal that could lead to scanning the private files of billions of people. EFF strongly opposes this proposal, put forward by the Belgian Presidency at the EU Council, which is part of the EU’s...
