I _think _my ideal system would be kubernetes light, something that doesn't require central coordination but makes it easy to configure apps expressing capabilities in containers for running as services.
DNS and networking are still and interesting problem though. Kinda hoping that we can solve that with something like tailscale/ngrok/Cloudflare tunnels. Forward proxies and overlay networks to simplify network management (at least somewhat, complicates networking adding yet another layer if abstraction but hopefully not something the user deloying simple services would have to worry about too often)
