CANDLE: National CAncer data Node DeveLopErs. An EU Project.

On March 6th, UNCAN-Connect, CANDLE, and EU-CiP: The EU Cancer Information Portal Project held a joint Persona Workshop with the EU cancer stakeholder community. This session, following the first persona workshop CANDLE held in November, aimed to build another four personas mapped to the functions of the National Cancer Data Nodes and the European Health Data Space context.

✏️ On Feb 10, the eCancer Working Group published its recommendations on implementing the UNCAN.eu and the ECPDC platforms. The coordination teams of UNCAN-Connect, CANDLE, and EU-CiP welcome the publication of the eCancer Working Group paper and its comprehensive recommendations on the core functions, future governance, and use of cancer data in Europe.

In this installment of the CANDLE WP Series, we are introducing Work Package 4: Co-creation and Maturation Models for NCDNs.

WP4 aims to co-create and implement the CANDLE Maturation Model, guidelines, and assets for NCDNs. The work package will also identify inequalities in maturation from piloting cases and map the basis for the development of training resources.

🎉 Yesterday, on November 26th, CANDLE held its first Persona Workshop with the EU cancer stakeholder community. This session aimed to build personas mapped to the functions of the National Cancer Data Nodes and the European Health Data Space context. The workshop was attended by 62 participants, all engaged in productive conversation.

💡 On this installment of the CANDLE WP series, we introduce the CANDLE WP3: Technical Interoperability of NCDNs with Major Platforms in the EHDS Framework. This work package aims to promote interoperability of the NCDNs with the UNCAN.eu and ECPDC platforms. The lead of this WP is the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.

💡The CANDLE team joined the EUnetCCC Annual Meeting in Paris, engaging with cancer data stakeholders across Europe

🗞️At the CANDLE booth, stakeholders highlighted the most impactful barriers, as well as promising initiatives to cancer data sharing across their home countries

📊During the panel discussion “Unlocking Cancer Data”, Tomi Mäkelä of FICAN delivered an overview of how NCDNs will aid in bridging gaps and developing a robust cancer data infrastructure

CANDLE contributes to EUnetCCC Annual Meeting 2025 – CANDLE Project

🎉 CANDLE will present its goals and achievements at an exhibition booth during the EUNetCCC 2025 Annual Meeting!

We will inform about our support for National Cancer Data Nodes and hear from you which cancer data topic matters most to you in 2026. Carola Schulz from empirica will meet you there.

Tomi Mäkelä - director of the Finnish Cancer Center and CANDLE WP2 lead – will speak at the EUNetCCC 2025 Annual Meeting in Paris! 🇫🇷

He will be one of the speakers in Parallel Session 5 – Unlocking data for better cancer care and control within the EunetCCC network, happening on November 6th, 16:00 - 16:45.
