@daringfireball I like having some amount of versioning in my notes (especially my to-do/calendar document), which Notes does not offer simply. So I use .txt files organized in BBEdit. It does occasionally come in handy to be able to access cross-platform as well, but more than anything, it's the versioning. That has somewhat ; after moving from Google Drive to iCloud (which is hourly only with my TimeMachine backup). If good versioning comes to Notes, I'll switch immediately.
@daringfireball Boot them both for simple, clearly defined reasons. Since regular rules don't apply in today's America, the path to their return is simple: Trump can do nothing and allow the removal, or he can demand their return with a one-page book report justifying it. Then the infractions of X and Grok are beside Trump's absolution in print. Same situation as now, but the dynamic is explicit, and any thinking person will understand why the world is messed up in the particular way it is.
@daringfireball It's clearly art mimicking AI, and the "impossible" maze (other than going around the outside) is a neat metaphor for the show itself.
@daringfireball It takes a bit of tuning, but it's entirely possible to set watch notifications to be those you want immediately and everything else for your phone. I do exactly this, and it means I get tapped for important things, while I check my phone for notifications that can wait until I have time. I would certainly welcome a simpler, more unified interface for these options, but I've mostly figured it out, and I'm surprised to learn there are technology adepts who have not.
@daringfireball Any journalist who bothers to write "We will see what happens" should have to put their day's salary in the "don't" jar.
@daringfireball DF’s is a brave and difficult argument to stake. The first three commenters are posting as if DF agrees with Apple on this, which he clearly does not.
@daringfireball I noticed the NY logo is absent. As a Red Sox fan, I applaud this, but I'm wondering if the motivation is an attenuation of enthusiasm thanks to certain tributes the team has recently made.
@daringfireball To your point about bootlegging: at some point, the additional cost of an iPhone in the US becomes less than the cost of a round-trip flight to Europe or Mexico, so new phone is now a standard part of international travel. That is, until US Customs starts requiring you to have receipts for electronics on re-entry.
@daringfireball I don't think they would sell the same model at different prices depending on where it is made, but would simply average the cost of tariffs (or the cost of some small number of expensive-to-manufacture American-made iPhones) across all phone sales with more modest price increases.
@rvcx OK I’m more sure now. Couldn’t matter less to me, but if you did get it, you haven’t suggested so with what you’ve written here. Again, one of the problems with the service really. I envy you that you don’t know what’s been lost.
