We discovered the mutaxanthenes via cluster activation using selection for antibiotic resistance and found a surprising labeling pattern during structural work. It is delightful to see this careful mechanistic study completing the mutaxanthene story!

Visualizing translation dynamics at atomic detail inside a bacterial cell - Nature

Cryo-electron tomography is used to reveal the structural dynamics and functional diversity of translating ribosomes in Mycoplasma pneumoniae, providing insight into the translation elongation cycle inside cells and how it is reshaped by antibiotics.

By way of #introduction, I am a chemistry prof at Vanderbilt University. Prior to my independent career I was a Director in a natural product discovery company

I am interested broadly in human and microbial secondary metabolite chemical biology, the intersection of these disciplines, and synthetic biology of secondary metabolites.
