Except the audio settings. Did the first real conversation over element yesterday with a friend of mine.

We quickly noticed that we could hear each other tiping on the keyboard the mouse clicking or even people in the background.

The 2 options for noise suppression were active all the time we even tried to deactivate it just to find out it doesn't make any difference.

Using the #element desktop app on #Linux #CachyOS

I do like and appreciate the work that is put into all these clients don't get me wrong.

It's just a bit frustrating (especially now that I could easily convince others to switch over to one of these discord alternatives) to find out that everything seems to work fine sound in voice calls is clean, streaming your screen (til now) is permanent at a pretty good quality/resolution no fragments at all.
The messenger is damn solid!

I'm new to GitHub. I tried to get the information I wanted there but could not find it.

I know that there is a PR for voice chats in general for #cinnyapp which I really appreciate

#commetchat is fairly new and doesn't even have its 1.0 release yet.

But for a client that focuses on communication shouldn't it be a more relevant topic to get the voice call to be a more smooth experience since the messenger stuff is already in a pretty good state?

Hey there, (I hope this is the right place to ask)

So I'm currently testing different matrix clients like yours #element , #cinnyapp and #commetchat.

I know that all of these clients use the same matrix protocol and rely on the development of this protocol.

I had my first real session in a voice call via element and was missing some basic audio settings like a noise Gate.

@haise

that indeed sounds pretty nice i actually prefer the design of cinny over the over two because commet is nearly a 1to1 copy of discord and element is a bit to minimalistic ^^

do you by any chance know how long those polls need til they get "approved" and implemented?

at the moment im searching for a noise gate option in element but it seems that there is none.

i tried a convo with a friend in element and you can literally hear everything hes tiping etc.πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@haise

Hey so I checked out cinny and commet.chat both seem to be more polished then element does but

Cinny is just a messenger? Without VoIP? Maybe as a nice looking messenger for the phone cause I never used discord on my phone to get into a call or something like that 😹

Commet is more interesting cause u can get into calls etc but u can't join an end-2-end encrypted voice channel.

And if u aren't running flatpak it seems a bit complicated to get installed? (But that's on me😹)

@locustmage

Sounds like a simulated environment for the specific software I launch in it(with some sort of compatibility add ons). That's an interesting approach.

I will look into it later although It sounds a bit complicated at first, but that's on me cause I'm fairly new to Linux.
I installed cachyos 3 months ago. It was my first time ever using Linux. But using it on daily basis since that.

Thank you!

@haise

Also looks pretty nice😸
I don't know if there's much of a difference between element and cinny but I will look into that later this day.

thanks a lot for the suggestion!

@ohayoitsmiku

If you do you're free to add me maybe this way there's a private chat option 😹

See you around

@ohayoitsmiku

As far as I figured out elemet is a graphical application with the matrix protocol so it uses the open source code from matrix and has access to the servers of matrix similar to Mastodon and fediverse
