still trying to figure out the right way to say this. in recent decades it has become easier and easier to fall into the trap of "i don't need to make this particular art, someone else has made it better than me". to get demoralized by comparing to the work of others.

art-making AIs extrapolate that feeling to encompass the entire universe of potential art, so you can no longer avoid facing down and overcoming that fear. it's the Library of Babel, no longer the suspicion but the certainty that anything you could say has been said before.

of course it's always been a lie; you have to make the thing anyway. the thing is particular to you. the thing is *specific*, as each of us is specific.

we're all Pierre Menard, rewriting Don Quixote. which was Borges' point even then.

Here's our latest twixt story posts.. with some news too..

@strangeseawolf i would go for something like "scars from the fire" first time and then just "scars" afterwards

@[email protected] apologies for typos :)

5) download and name (with place/date) everything ASAP... you will forget that unforgetable recording quicker than you imagine...
6) enjoy exploring a place as a sonic environment not a visual one... it can change/repurpose even a familiar place
7) have fun and expect the unexpected...somehow it always seems to happen :)

3) remember that you'll record everything in the soundfield...not just what your paying attention to. I once was entranced by the sound of a bunch of ticket barriers opening and closing and was excited to record it. On playback all I could hear was the chatter of passengers talking (see the cocktail party affect)
4) try to get to the situation where you hear everything... which is a nice meditative state to be in - to avoid (3)

@[email protected] so if there are any rookie mistakes... we're probably going to make them together. Some little tidbits I've picked up are

1) make sure you've hit record and not monitor... once spent 10 minutes listening to the majestic beauty of a ferry sailing by, excited by the recording... that I didn"t make
2) wear soft shoes, especialy if you are doing soundwalks... clack, clack, clack

@[email protected] have also dabbled in the past (and hope to do so again) with a similar setup. Happy to chat on tne topic bit coming from a very basic knowledge...

This is a good place to find work as well...
