still trying to figure out the right way to say this. in recent decades it has become easier and easier to fall into the trap of "i don't need to make this particular art, someone else has made it better than me". to get demoralized by comparing to the work of others.

art-making AIs extrapolate that feeling to encompass the entire universe of potential art, so you can no longer avoid facing down and overcoming that fear. it's the Library of Babel, no longer the suspicion but the certainty that anything you could say has been said before.

of course it's always been a lie; you have to make the thing anyway. the thing is particular to you. the thing is *specific*, as each of us is specific.

we're all Pierre Menard, rewriting Don Quixote. which was Borges' point even then.

Here's our latest twixt story posts.. with some news too..

The hardest thing to learn when it came to submitting for short stories was the proper mindset for dealing with rejections.

It's too easy to take it personally. Shifting your mindset from "A rejection means this sucks/I'm a bad writer" etc to "All it means is this story wasn't what they were looking for" is a huge help.

Been thinking how cars are a metaphor for alienation under modern capitalism:

They are a manufactured need, meant to exhibit status.
They're sold as freedom but are really not.
They are debt and depreciation.
They lock you, alone and isolated, in a cage among a multitude of lonely cages: traffic.
They make you feel everyone else is an enemy.
They cost you every time you use them. They suck your disposable income.
They make you hate those who are different, cyclists, pedestrians.

Hello #ambient musicians or music makers... I'm hoping to soon start ("yeah, right") a project involving field recordings and acoustic instruments and I want to kind of set all that in a drone as a "background tint".

So... I'm interested in *something* that could do that graphically - e.g a tool like Xenakis UPIC system. I know there is software like that - and maybe even better tools - has anyone tried/recommend these?

Thanks very muchly!

So...apparently The Dark Is Rising is coming to radio... in "real time" with the book and with binaural segments..

Oh my!
