Jewellery & the senses: smell is incredibly important for us, and so it comes as no surprise that it also forms part and parcel of jewellery! Jewellery and scent are closely connected: many jewellery pieces contain fragrance one way or another.

Shocked to learn the exhibition on Dacian treasures in the Drents Museum has been robbed last night. I visited earlier this month and was in awe of the craftmanship and beauty of these pieces...I hope they will be found and returned home soon.

Two amber beads, found beneath the ziggurat of Assur (in current-day Iraq) and buried there around 3,500 years ago. The amber came from the Baltic region: trade networks reached far and wide.
On view in the spectacular Bronze Age exhibition in the National Museum of Antiquities, Leiden.

Silver anklet of Ethiopian Christian women. In the excellent exhibition 'Hew Locke: What have we here?' in @britishmuseum, where we also learn that this particular pair was looted on April 13, 1868, in Maqdala.
