Follow up: not going good, so far. The screen appears to be shorting out(?) now? The 2DS loads, but the screen flashes, makes a popping sound, and then the shuts down. effing eff
Hopefully I don't end up just destroying the screen and wanting to smash the unit with a hammer.
Coincidentally, I may be in the market for a new-used 2DS XL or 3DS XL really soon. No reason, why do you ask?

A while back, one of the littles accidentally broke the top screen on a 2DS XL we have. I finally got around to replacing the screen, successfully! It was somewhat challenging, but doable.
Unfortunately, the new screen is pretty dark. That might be a defect in the replacement though, since I can "adjust" the ribbon cable and the brightness increases *dramatically*. So, I am going to try and fix this issues this morning.

Giving Mastodon a try! After (finally) getting an invite to Bluesky, I've decided to also try here. It's been a little bit of a learning curve, but it's not notTwitter and that's all the encouragement I need to continue branching out to different platforms!
