4/5 The combination of misinformation flag and social reference (normative information) significantly reduced sharing behaviour - and additionally narrowed the distribution of misinformation. This effect is likely mediated by changes in injunctive norms, but not social identity
3/5 Participants received fact-checked (ie proven) misinformation into their normal twitter (before X) feed, which was accompanied by a) twitter's then misinformation flag, b) normative info (X of X people in your network did not share this post), c) combination or d) no flag
We also found interactions in that individual determinants such as intentions were more predictive of adherence in situations with regulations in place:
In an EMA study with 6 measurement bouts over 6 months (2021-2022), we tested both momentary and stable individual and contextual predictors of daily adherence to hygiene and distancing recommendations.
