We now have a political assassin impersonating a police officer on the loose in Minnesota, which, aside from being horrifying in and of itself, underscores the danger of the proliferation of anonymous federal law enforcement deployments from a wide variety of unfamiliar agencies conducting aggressive immigration operations across the country.

Is that uniformed person who's stopping you or demanding entry to your home legit or a psychotic vigilante seeking to harm you? It's impossible to know.

The way forward is clear. City of Berkeley must build more protected bike infra to reduce VMT and encourage active transportation. This is what a clear majority of Berkeley residents want.

Big shout-out to Libby Lee-Egan and Marc Hedlund.

New survey supports a strong Berkeley Bike Plan: Op-ed

The authors commissioned a professional poll from a nonpartisan research agency to learn more about what Berkeley wants in its bike infrastructure.

Pilots & CFIs, a new ACS Companion Guide is available, but just minor changes. The FAA continues their confusing policy of using Change numbers, making it easy to unwittingly have an out-of-date version. The cover says 2023, but actual release is December 2024. 🤦‍♂️

Waymo (aka Google) admits that it trains its robotaxis to break the law. When WaPo reporter finds robotaxis fail to stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalk 70% of the time, Waymo says it follows "social norms" rather than laws.
Expert explains: When robotaxis obey law, they don't go fast enough to compete successfully with Uber, so Google execs ordered engineers to ignore laws.

On roads teeming with robotaxis, crossing the street can be harrowing

Our tech columnist captured multiple videos of Waymo self-driving cars failing to stop for him at a crosswalk. How does an AI learn how to break the law?

A claim often made in Berkeley is that protected bike lanes discriminate against people w/ limited mobility who must drive & therefore need to park.

The truth is safe infrastructure provides people with limited mobility more options, not fewer options.

Also, don't park like a jackass.

Just learned that Ed Litton passed away last night at Kaiser Oakland. I first met him last summer to discuss a bike project that, sadly, never happened. In addition to be a master at building bike frames, Ed was kind, knowledgable, and generous in sharing his time.

Godspeed Mr. Litton.

One would think that $500k/year might be better spent on, say, getting the #18 bus to run on time?

AC Transit director decries ‘sweetheart deal’ for outgoing general manager

Ward 3 Director Sarah Syed said other board directors approved the agreement in a closed session to avoid public scrutiny.
