Discord for Japanese-style role-playing game (JRPG) discussion: Seventh Heaven - come say hello!

I’m interested in the premise, but if it’s a 300 hour grind to Vox and Nagafen solo, it’s not gonna be for me. When I started (late Kunark), much of the old world was already dead, so it’d be neat to see that content.

Owlcat is a big RPG developer. Closer to Larian in terms of headcount. $1.4m is a drop in the bucket.

The concerns here would be about the different type of project and Owlcat’s history of releasing unpolished games at 1.0, not in it being a soulless cash grab.

Oh no, not the badly-written stuff lesbian fiction! Where at, so I know what sites to be completely sure to not thoroughly investigate? 🙂

Rampant, sociopathic, infinite growth corporate leadership is one thing, but I always assumed someone was being served by these CEOs. What this brief says about Kim is incredible, and that he didn’t settle this case is just icing on the cake of incompetence here.

I’m old enough to remember when CEOs got held to account for this sort of thing, but I guess the big boys are all kings of their castles now. I’d be pissed if I was a Krafton shareholder.

This game had one of my favorite moments ever in the genre. It’s really cool what it does with Final Fantasy tropes.

Gotta love the battle system though, and I’d tell anyone trying it not to be afraid to turn the encounter slider off when you want to. No MP recovery in-dungeon was an odd choice for a game with this kind of battle system.

Setting aside that it’s specifically a rule in this community (and most other JRPG communities) to mark spoilers regardless of age, the Sky remake has brought in hundreds of thousands of new fans.

It’s common courtesy.

Major spoilers for Sky 1st in this press release, just so people are aware.

Finally finished Trails beyond the Horizon! I was pretty frustrated with Act 1 (the usual Trails padding) but I still ate so damn well with this game. I got heaping servings of old characters I love, I really like a certain new character, and I’m still thinking the finale chapter is the best Trails chapter to date, wire-to-wire. It was so good.

I just started Tales of Berseria the other night. I don’t really speak Tales of, so a lot of what it does is new to me. Love the skits, don’t love the combat. Rina Sato’s already excellent as Velvet. I’ve bounced of Abyss and Symphonia before; maybe I’ll stick with this one.

The only JRPGs announced that I’m interested in are Persona 4 Revival and the upcoming FF7 conclusion, and both are probably a ways off, so I’ll be combing through previous releases this year, I think. Ys X Proud Nordics will happen eventually for sure.

In other genres, I also played through Signalis last month. I will definitely be picking up Mina the Hollower if it stops getting delayed, and Death Stranding 2 is also likely.

MtG draft scratched this itch for me for a few years. With a little gaming of the system on Magic Arena, it’s definitely possible to play for free or near-free once you get good enough at it, but I was already a veteran Magic player by the time Arena came out, and there are few things with a higher learning curve than draft.

You might like JRPGs with job systems. Metaphor: ReFantazio is a recent one. Final Fantasy Tactics and Bravely Default are a couple of my favorites in this vein.

Reportedly sales of this in Japan were real bad and with the localization delay, announcing it so soon after the original game’s release probably killed its long tail sales.

Between that and Sky 1st’s huge success, I don’t think they are going to try this approach again.
