ACAB 🔪👮🏻♂️I think one narrative about cop city that everybody tends to miss is that they’re not just trying to build this facility because of some kind of bullshit authoritarian fantasy. They’re building this facility because they’re preparing for the future that we are all going to inherit that necessitates its very existence. The future of economic hardship, mass migration, and climate destruction makes this facility absolutely necessary for the state and the ruling class. They are preparing for the world that we will inevitably be faced to deal with and they’re planning on putting every single one of you down and anybody else who gets in their way. In Mexico, Indigeneity is fundamentally established through self-identification.
In the US, legal Indigenous standing is largely (and controversially) determined through federal acknowledgement.
Things appear a bit more flexible in Canada, with all First Peoples, including members of First Nations (Indians), Inuits and Métis, regardless of Status, having some legal standing.
None of these definitions are compatible with each other. Most Mexicans would be First Peoples by the Canadian definition. Few would be by the US one. I am not sure how they could be reconciled.
