In the past 40 years, CEO pay has risen by 1,460 percent.

Don’t tell me that we can’t afford a wealth tax.

I think one narrative about cop city that everybody tends to miss is that they’re not just trying to build this facility because of some kind of bullshit authoritarian fantasy. They’re building this facility because they’re preparing for the future that we are all going to inherit that necessitates its very existence. The future of economic hardship, mass migration, and climate destruction makes this facility absolutely necessary for the state and the ruling class. They are preparing for the world that we will inevitably be faced to deal with and they’re planning on putting every single one of you down and anybody else who gets in their way. This is crunch time comrades! You better be getting prepared because there’s no time left to fuck around!

If you could behold a Martian blizzard, you might see columns of glittering carbon-dioxide snow and even hear the sound of flakes falling to the ground, @marinakoren reports: https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2023/01/mars-snow-evidence/672793/?utm_campaign=the-atlantic&utm_content=true-anthem&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter

And it would be strangely beautiful to behold.

The omnibus spending bill has many flaws, but it does include some critical provisions.

Keep up the fight.

Why hasn’t the Republican Party as a whole tipped against Trump? Why aren’t almost all Republican lawmakers publicly disavowing the former sociopath-in-chief?

Two words: the base. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/when-will-the-gop-reach-the-anti?#details
When will the GOP reach the anti-Trump tipping point?

Today, President Biden will sign the Respect for Marriage Act. It will nullify the odious act known as DOMA, which had enshrined anti LGBTQ+ prejudice and discrimination into law.
Federal recognition of same sex marriages, by statute, is an important safeguard, but we must still do more. We must now enshrine the protections of Obergefell into law, so that no state can deny same-sex couples the rights and privileges afforded heterosexual married couples.

Anyone… and I mean ANYONE want to hire my #Canadian wife in the United States? We’ll go anywhere.

I need to get back home, and as quickly as possible.

A green card application for us could take 12-20 months. A work visa would be ideal. She is Master’s level educated, works in #Banking w/ #Tech and #ProjectManagement experience.

I am chronically ill and need help asap.

Boosts appreciated.

U.S. Mastodon: My mother served as a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII and helped care for 8,000 war-wounded. She is now dying, at the age of 99, without honorary veteran status. Last year, Sen. Elizabeth Warren sponsored S.1220 The U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps Service Recognition Act. It hasn't passed. If Sen. Marsha Blackburn would co-sponsor it, movement would happen. Will you please call 202-224-3344 and tell staff that you want her to support this bill? I would be so grateful.
I think one huge barrier to further political integration in North America is the wildly different national definitions of who is Indigenous in Mexico, the US and Canada.

In Mexico, Indigeneity is fundamentally established through self-identification.

In the US, legal Indigenous standing is largely (and controversially) determined through federal acknowledgement.

Things appear a bit more flexible in Canada, with all First Peoples, including members of First Nations (Indians), Inuits and Métis, regardless of Status, having some legal standing.

None of these definitions are compatible with each other. Most Mexicans would be First Peoples by the Canadian definition. Few would be by the US one. I am not sure how they could be reconciled.
