@MkellyIrving oic. I thought there was a way within Mastodon to follow a #.
@MkellyIrving
How do I follow a #? Sorry if this is documented somewhere, I haven’t gotten to reading about more than the basics.
@QasimRashid
That’s why I:
•go to Twitter (and now its substitutes like Mstdn) first
•subscribe to small news outlets like Mississippi Free Press for news in my inbox - I pay for some of them
•subscribe to the (paid) LA Times print edition even though I usually read it on line.
Social media doesn’t have editors. If I don’t want to read about the Biden family’s wedding and complaints by those who feel snubbed for not being invited - I can scroll on down.

This is what I'm watching for, to figure out if #Mastodon is going to be long-term successful.

* Treatment of Black women
* Treatment of trans women
* Success in foiling institutional/organized information operations and attacks

That way, the communication won’t get shut down. There is mutual respect. When you get to the point where Uncle Bob asks you a question, THAT is when you’ve won. 2/end
@rbreich
Thre “Uncle Bobs” of the world are not interested in facts. If they were, they would have looked for factual verification of their views the first or second or third time they read an opposing viewpoint. Asking then to accept facts they don’t like is not the right starting point. I recommend starting from a point you can agree on: “We all love our country.” “We all want to get big money out of politics.” “We all want a fair and just immigration system.”

A California initiative on sports betting was defeated by voters this election. Big $$ were spent to co-opt California’s initiative system, which has been the pattern in recent years.

California overwhelmingly votes no on sports betting

California voters overwhelmingly rejected sports betting Tuesday, shooting down initiatives by Native American tribes and the gambling industry.

The week before Thanksgiving Twitter fires 4K workers, Amazon fires 10K workers, Facebook fires 11K workers, and Disney plans thousands of layoffs—all while US Billionaire pandemic wealth increased an absurd $1.7T.😳

A reminder that billionaires don’t create jobs—they exploit workers.

Tax billionaires. Unionize workers.

Today is #TransDayofRemembrance when we honor and remember trans lives taken by violence. How horrifying that a deadly attack upon the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs should occur right before this solemn day.
Hate isn’t born in us. It is taught. It must end.
This starts with our political leaders, who must cease their cynical attacks against our community before another attack occurs.
Call out the hate. Remind them of its consequences. Hold them to account.

The two largest US oil companies have raked in more than $30 billion in the last three months.

Don't tell me inflation is being driven by government spending or workers asking for better wages.
