Lol you gotta be kidding me.

Hello again Mastodon.

Tonight, enough power for one million people, or about a tenth of the population, will be lost.

The reason: a nuclear phaseout law passed in 2003 wasn't reversed in time.

But now the phaseout isn't even happening: 2 reactors are being extended.

An awful waste

it's weird how so much economic commentary is "this long term decline in labor participation since the 1980s is caused by cultural trends over the past 5 years" like yeah rational expectations, everyone anticipated weed would be legal in 2022 so they stopped working in 1992

Today I learned that the University of Illinois is planning to build a microreactor to deliver electricity & *district heating* to the Urbana Champaign campus.

I believe this would be the first nuclear district heating in North America?

US university plans to build microreactor

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has informed the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission that it intends to construct an Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation Micro Modular Reactor on its campus. The university said the submission of the Letter of Intent is the first step in the NRC's two-step process to license the new research and test reactor facility.;

I cracked and got HBO Max to watch Chernobyl. What else would you recommend on there?

Like everybody is going gaga over White Lotus but all the clips I’ve seen of it kinda sucks?

OK I subscribed for Chernobyl but it might have to wait because I’m way more hyped about The Last of Us. It’s one of my favorite video games, ever. Also it’s just a few episodes in so I can binge and be up to date with the discourse.

What I don’t get is how the Americans are so much more obese than the Canadians. Is it more walkable in Canada? WTF?

I assume Japan is mass-prescribing surgeries and injections to combat obesity?
