Hey all, I went through a retraction/resubmission and I wanted to share the experience. SORTEE gave me space to write a blog post on it as well as general things I learned. https://www.sortee.org/blog/2023/12/04/2023_setting_record_straight/
Setting the record straight: how data and code transparency caught an error and how I fixed it

Student said it's kind of scary how fast I respond on slack or email.
I'll take the backhanded complement. Guess paranoia is part of running a lab.
Getting worried this job cycle. My list of academic fits is surprisingly low. Hoping for more calls this month.
Succesful poster session for summer research. Proud of the work these four Reedies did in my lab.
🎶Look at these fish
🎶Aren't they neat?
🎶My Sphaerichthys collection's complete
🎶Wouldn't you think I'm the biologist
🎶The biologist who has acrostoma!

Fun work over the summer by an undergrad. Turns out our cichlids (like others) "sing" and in this case also "drum" on their nest. Waaaaay too early to know anything, just a mic and some fun results. Hope to keep learning more.

I had sworn off trying to keep these guys in the lab, but my postbac convinced me to try one last time. These jerks did this!
Male holding eggs with female in background. Sphaerichthys vaillanti.
My collaboration with Jay Jinsing Falk on MJ West-Eberhard's concept on #Cross-SexualTransfer is now in a more readable print version. It was great experience being part of an amazing symposium at #SICB2023 on Sex & Diversity. If you are interested in #SexDiversity #SexualSelection and #Evolution please give this a read. Can't wait for the finalized issue!

Cross-sexual Transfer Revisited

Abstract. In her influential book “Developmental Plasticity and Evolution,” Mary Jane West-Eberhard introduced the concept of cross-sexual transfer, where trait

There are some great examples that support this framework out there that are discussed in the paper. I hope you all take the time to read it, and try to incorporate the framework into some of your projects to test its usefulness. I love talking about this and would welcome any discussion anyone would like to bring forward.
I think this can help explain #SexDiversity especially since we know the signals can vary due to environment and genetics at the individual level. Evolution may cause some variants to spread leading to population or species-wide #CrossSexualTransfer. A plastic response may also be favored as individuals can respond to new environments by adjusting trait values more typical of the other sex.
