"We absolutely reject the offensive accusation that gun crime is uniquely high in the United States because of Americans' 'hearts.' Gun crime is uniquely high in the United States because congressional Republicans have spent decades choosing the gun industry's lobbyists over the lives of innocent Americans."

It is noteworthy and totally appropriate that Biden gave an in-depth interview about threats to -- and saving -- democracy to a major US news organization that, unlike almost all others, has made this a priority in its coverage: @ProPublica

As we face yet another Govt shutdown I reflect on these absurdities. In the United States:
•1 Senator can block all military confirmations—but it takes 60 Senators to overrule him
•1 Speaker can shut down the entire government—but it takes 218 House Reps to overrule him
•1 bought SCOTUS Justice can strip away rights for hundreds of millions of people—and it's virtually impossible to remove him

This is not a functioning democracy. It is GOP exploitation. Vote GOP Out. Reform our government.

The GOP was threatening to hold Garland in contempt when Swalwell chimed in:

“My colleague just said you should be held in contempt of Congress. And that is quite rich because the guy who is leading the hearing room right now, Mr Jordan, is about 500 days into evading his subpoena—are you serious?”
