@roxy from what I understand it was made by some 22 year old who said he was inspired by what the discord engineers accomplished.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a passion/learning project that people just started jumping onto after the latest discord scandal
At least that's what I got from his blog post

Personally, depending on how the self hosting version turns out, that's where my friends and I are aiming towards going
@nixCraft sounds a lot like me with stackoverflow when I first started using python at work... However I wouldn't have considered myself a developer, I was just a "I'm-not-changing-the-local-password-on-200-switches-manually-er"
Enough of that eventually forced me to actually understand and write my own code though...
