There should be an investigation that determines whether the there is a reasonable chance (not necessarily certainty) that the person would not have been elected if he had told the truth. If so, he should be charged with fraud. If the court agrees that the lie constituted fraud, the usual consequences should apply -- firing, return of any gains, fines, and jail.
