If I'm not mistaken, these are sandhill cranes. I found them earlier today and one of them is tagged.
They're fairly big dinos and let you get real close.
In December's solstice, everything north of the arctic circle has 24 hour nights. South of the antarctic circle, 24 hour day. This is called polar night, and polar day respectively.
It lasts one day at the circles (66.5° N & S latitudes) and 6 months at the poles.
That shit is cool.
