Previously KE8RO, KL8DX, AK2MA, and AK7DD. "Ham Radio operator since 1980 something. The most underused piece of ham equipment I own would be a microphone. The key to my ham success is Iambic and Straight. The waterfalls I frequent don't have a drop of water to them. I've put more miles on a VFO than any vehicle I've ever owned. To some, surfing is a sport but to me, it's an addiction, one band at a time." - PS
A few months back or so, I dropped my twin 818’s that I use for portable satellite operation. The silver rails saved my radios but the sacrificial rails did as they should. They saved my radios from direct contact with the pavement when dropped, but one of the rails cracked. My nephew (KJ7MPQ) 3D printed me another set and they are even more robust. The twins will be sporting the new rails once we get back home.
Been getting around to doing some updates on a few of my mobile rigs. When the FTM-400XDR was discontinued, I thought I would miss the large screen and I almost purchased another just to have. Instead, I have purchased two FTM-300DR’s and I gotta say, I really love this rig. A few Pros and Cons to both but no regrets. I use one FTM-300DR for portable satellite ops and the other is pictured here in my truck. For digital communications while on the road, I paired this with an Openspot4.
One of the things I enjoy about chasing (operating from) grid squares is all of the awesome places I (we) have visited. As a satellite operator, I love nothing more than to help others chasing their Gridmaster, WAS, or any other award. It goes to the next level when I can associate any contacts with an official POTA operation. Parks have been a large part of our travels both recreationally and professionally. I’m looking forward to activating from more new to me grid squares in 2024.
