Well.
I've had a toot deleted by the admins of my instance because I pointed out that criticism of the Israeli Government is not in itself anti-Semitic.
Apparently, saying this (and condemning Hamas in the same toot) is offensive.
I had forgotten what the internet used to be like 20 or more years ago.
But it's just occurred to me that a couple of hours ago I asked a bunch of random strangers a fairly random question (about repairing a broken watch) and quickly got back multiple helpful and informative replies.
This is what the net used to be like, back in the days of usenet and email lists and the early web forums. And most people have probably never experienced it at all, their impression of social media being very different from those of us here on the Fediverse.
PS: It's probably very unfair to call you "random strangers". Even in just the 18 months I've been here I've found and chatted with people I'm happy to call friends, even though I've never met them face-to-face.
I feel very much politically adrift these days.
I'm a socialist. And I see no party that truly represents me any longer. The Labour shipnsailed a long time ago, and the other parties on the left are either so small as to be ineffectual even at a local level, or riddled with their own issues (The Greens, for example). The shift to the Right has gone too far.
If you think that a ceasefire shouldn't happen in Gaza because it will "help Hamas", then that just shows you think that killing what in reality is a few thousand terrorists (at best) is worth more than the ongoing suffering of over 2 million innocent people.
"Humanitarian pauses" will just drag this conflict out over a longer period. Which means more deaths. Israel is already responsible for almost 10x as many deaths as Hamas caused. That's gone beyond retaliation. Way, way beyond it.
Wow. My MP is a dick.
He doesn't understand how refusing to call for a ceasefire can be seen as condoning the violence in Gaza...
I really hate "Blue Labour". If you abhor left leaning politics that much, join the fucking Tories.
My MP is pure Blue Labour. Would rather suck up to the boss than make a principled stand for peace.
I'm sure the "reason" given by my MPmis being repeated by others across the UK. They don't want to jepordise their careers by standing for something meaningful, so they trot out a poor excuse.
It's disgusting.
