@drsimevans even if true, all this really achieves is making me move rooftop solar + battery up my list of priorities anyway.

@trigonella wider tyres allow for lower pressures so the tyre can deform around objects more. This also means less pinch flats. I'd also echo others when saying something with a protective band like marathon green, despite coming with a weight penalty, will naturally reduce punctures.
